I am excited to write today because I have not been able to the last week or so. As some may know from reading other posts, I was diagnosed with a chronic illness at 18 months old. I receive treatment for my Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. A very not-so-fun part of having a chronic illness is being immunosuppressed and the last week or so I have been battling a virus and a joint flare up, which usually always comes whenever I get sick. I’m not writing this to throw a pity party or anything, but I wanted to first explain my lack of posts, and second share something I found while sick in bed scrolling through Facebook at 2 am. It is a talk given by someone diagnosed with a chronic illness speaking about her outlook on the world. I want to share this with all my perpetually sick buds out there who need a pick me up. I will put the link to her talk at the end of my post.
I just want all you sick kids out there to know that just because you are immunosuppressed and life seems immunoDepressing (you are welcome for that pun)… it doesn’t mean you cannot, or never will be happy. When being sick is just a daily occurrence, you cannot let it consume you, and most importantly you have to remember that you are not alone. I know this sounds cliche and all but I find it comforting to see others battling lifelong illnesses out there share their stories either on social media, in books, or in a blog *insert finger guns here ;)* There is another person I want you all to check out on Instagram, I will also link her info down below. This inspiring lady’s name is Jill and I met her this last summer at the national arthritis conference in Seattle. Since we met I have followed her on Instagram and continued to be inspired by her and the way she battles her arthritis.
I know this may not have been the most riveting blog post, but after four days of a fever and an ER visit, I guess this is all I wanted to write about! Leave a comment on this post about what you thought of the video, or Jill, or even leave a fun fact! Thank you all for listening and to all my immunosuppressed buds out there, keep your head up and give some love to that purell bottle! Stay healthy in mind, body and soul!!!
